Financial Assistance for GATE Qualified Candidates

GATE is one of the most reputed engineering exams in the country. The Graduate Aptitude Test in engineering exam is really pretty difficult to crack as the questions for the exam are prepared directly by one of the conducting IITs and the IISCs from the country.  The exam is conducted directly under the flagship of the central ministry under the education department. The candidates who are meritorious enough are able to crack and pass through the exam and thus succeed in getting a chance to study in one of the top and elite engineering institutes in the country, like in any one of the IITs and the IISCs.

Education and study has become a costly affair now days. Even though the students studying in the central government funded institutions which are often les costlier compared to the other private educational institutions, they often at times find it difficult to bear the education costs. Therefore they are often in the search of financial grants in the form of scholarships and other sponsorships from different trusts and organizations. Below are the required steps that a candidate must follow for ensuring a financial assistance from any of the earlier mentioned institutions or even for the loans from the banks.

  1. At first the candidate needs to secure an admission in any of the participating institutions in GATE exam through the proper selection process. The selection process and the methods might vary from one institution to the other as they are often institution specific although their overall admission structures and procedures remains the same.
  2. The qualification in the GATE exam is the basic requisite the candidate must comply with in order to apply for a fellowship programme or grant process.
  3. The participating IITs and the IISCs also provides financial grants and the fellowships that the student needs to keep a track of and have to apply for that accordingly through proper channels and procedures. These can be applied after or before the admission procedure to the particular institution is over. This generally varies from one institute to the other.
  4. The students who belong to the lower and backward sections of the society can apply for the various government grants and fellowships that are especially available to them for their betterment and for the development of the society and their social uplift.
  5. The government also at times provides loans and monetarily help to the meritorious and the needy students for their better performance in the exam. The students can keep a track of such facilities and can apply for the same accordingly.
  6. Last but not the least for the candidates who fail to bag any of the above facilities, can always opt for a bank loan. They have to submit their admission proof supported by an approval letter from the head of the admitted institute.

There is always more than one way to avail a financial assistance. The students should be aware of these facilities and have to apply for them accordingly.

GATE Examination – Recent Changes

GATE is the entrance examination for the engineering and other related streams that can be pursued from some of the elite engineering colleges across the country. The question patterns and the structure is changing always each year with the introduction of some new changes and the deletion of some old existing framework to keep at pace with the ever evolving examination patterns. The modifications are made keeping in mind not to hamper the present standard but to improve the existing framework and the question pattern for the examination. The examination structure has been to change recently in this year as well.

The few of the changes regarding the GATE exam are discussed below.

  1. There will be a total of 22 papers on which the examination will be conducted under the GATE examination flagship.
  2. A new paper called the Ecology and Evolution has been introduced from this year.
  3. All the papers under the GATE examination banner will be conducted through online examination process named to be Computer based Test namely the (CBT).
  4. Some of the gate papers and the examinations are held in more than one session that too in multiple sessions as per the requirement for that paper.
  5. All the candidates have been instructed to apply online only. They have tried to eliminate the offline process of application this time. This will ensure them for their contribution for a greener environment with the effectiveness of bringing the process of application streamlined and thus optimizing the application process as well.
  6. The admit cards as per the earlier process were generally sent by post or were mailed over the internet to the candidate. But from this time they have introduced the new option of downloading the admit cards directly from the zonal GATE websites under whom the candidates have made their application.

There have also been some changes in the question pattern as well. There have been the numerical types of questions pattern. In this pattern there will be no options that will be provided to the candidates. The questions are to carry 1 to 2 marks at maximum. There will not be any negative marks for the questions marked incorrectly. But the candidates have to select from a whole number as their answers. This will again play a direct role in impacting their overall score. The GATE conducting committee wants to evaluate the credibility of the candidates. They want the candidates to perform some real time calculating and not just at times trying out their luck in selecting the answers which at times might prove to be effective as well.

Referring to the changes above it is evident that proper note has to be made for the changes of the examination before starting to prepare for the exam. Only real information and proper guidance can lead to success and helps in clearing the exam without any obstacle. Effective planning for the exam is necessary for clearing the exam and for studying of the exam and thus maintaining the focus on the exam.

The GATE online application process is more easy and simple and can be easily worked on by any candidate having minimum internet experiences.

GATE Subjective Analysis for GATE 2015 Preperations

Gate is one of the most difficult entrance exams that at times become hard to crack due to lack of proper resources or guidance. It is always suggested to understand the pattern and thus it is advisable to make a subject wise analysis for the different papers so that a comparative study can be made which might help the candidate make a proper planning for preparation for the exam. They thus need to go in depth and have to carefully study the previous year notes and the question papers. They also have to effectively categorize the questions into different topics and subjects so that they can calculate the ratio and the percentage of the marks that might be allotted to the different topics and parts.

Subject Wise Analysis

1. Civil Engineering Analysis

Comparing to the previous five years’ questions it has been found that the Geo Technical paper and topic has always been the favorite for the question setters as almost 20 percent of the total technical questions comes from that part only. On the other hand the environment engineering topics also seem to be very consistent as almost 10 percent of the questions come from there too. The irrigation and hydrology and the structural analysis paper seems to be a bit fluctuating indeed with its total percentage ranging from 3 to even 11 percent of the total paper.

2. Computer Science Analysis

The computer science and the information technology paper if reviewed carefully over the past five years will reveal the fact that questions relating to the algorithms are pretty common an affair as almost 10 percent of the total questions comes from this part in the technical field. The rest of the topics like digital logic and programming and the data structures part is pretty fluctuating in this case as there have been almost 3 to 7 percent of the questions that comes from this section. The software and the web technology part comprises of very minor sections relating to the 3 to 5 percent over all. And even at times there are certain topics that remains untouched throughout like Compiler design and all.

3. Electrical Engineering Analysis

The topics relating to the Network theory are pretty much the hot topic in most of the years for the question setters as it seems to cover almost 10 to 15 percent of the total technical paper. The analogue and digital electronics part is also an important part as well. As per the trends, less stress can be given on the EMT and the Power electronics paper as well. The engineering maths and the general aptitude part holds considerably almost equal percentage of marks in almost all the past five years ranging to almost 15 to 20 percent of the examination weightage. This proves that proper analysing and through subjective knowledge is very essential in the preparation for the examinations. Both subjective and objective analysis for each of the engineering and the related streams for the exam is very important for proper cracking of the GATE entrance examination.

Get Set for GATE 2015

‘Well begun is half the battle won’ says a quote which when experienced proves to be absolutely true. With the academic year coming to an end, students in colleges already feel the heat of the competitive exams waiting around the corner for them. Here is where the GATE aspirants of 2015 have a thing or two to cheer about. Firstly, they must thank themselves for having made the decision to appear for the exam well in time. Secondly, if they are aiming to enroll themselves in a study group or a coaching centre they will benefit as the batches will commence shortly.

The paper pattern of the examination has changed in 2014. The changes mainly include the following:

The tests will now be conducted online and are called as Computer Based Tests.’

The students will have to answer multiple choice questions and numerical questions.

For numerical questions the candidate has to enter the answer using the virtual keyboard.

For MCQ, an optical response sheet is provided to mark the answers.

The duration of the exam is about 3 hours.

The total number of questions is 65 and the total marks are 100.

Every wrong answer is negatively marked i.e. for every wrong answer the marks will be deducted.

The exam pattern of GATE is not very difficult to understand. Hence, options like,

Appearing for online test series or eGATE test series

Enrolling for distance learning courses where test material and notes are couriered or sent by post,

Attempting the test series of a coaching class proves helpful.

Test series enables the students to get used to the question paper pattern. It prepares them psychologically thereby reducing the stress and nervousness.

Articulate and precise notes on the specific subjects obtained from the classes helps in omitting out the unimportant topics.

Most of the prep centres hire ex IIT’ians who have a firsthand experience of the exam and can hence relate to the candidates queries efficiently.

Apart from the prep centres, study groups are a rich source for obtaining info especially with the peers studying the same syllabus as also experiencing the same anxiety.  Such peer study groups also help relieve the stress as they provide a very comfortable environment for the give and take of thoughts amongst the students.

Rigorous training at the coaching centres, long hours of self study, is sure to take their toll on health which can prove fatal if ignored.  A few common problems like,

Loss of sleep

Loss of hunger

Low BP or high BP

Low HB

Low concentration may hinder the progress of the GATE aspirants.

So simple tips like,

Eating healthy homemade food comprising of sprouts, fruits and vegetables and pulses keeps the BP in check.

Meditation, yoga or even a 15 minute walk calms the mind down, and is helpful in improving metabolism, thereby ensuring good food intake and sound sleep.

Nuts like almond help improve memory.

Communication with family members once in a while about the challenges of appearing for the exam is a great way to relive  the frustration as family will always be a great support and will always provide the much needed comfort and confidence.

GATE 2015 – A Gateway to Success

Graduate Aptitude Test – GATE is the talk of the season now as the aspirants aim to crack the exams in 2015 and the students who have appeared await the results of 2014. Why GATE? Well the reasons are simple but strong enough to speak for themselves.

Firstly, The Ministry of Human Resources Development under which comes the Department of Education has set up a Board – National Coordination Board which has in turn authorized The Indian Institute of Science and 7 Indian Institutes of Technology to conduct the exams every year.

Candidates holding a bachelors degree in Engineering/Architecture/Technology or

Candidates in the 2nd year of a Master degree program or holding a Masters degree in Science/Mathematics/Computer Applications or equivalent

B.E/B.Tech candidates from a recognized institute

Candidates in fourth year or 5th year of a four year or 5 year masters’ degree program in engineering technology amongst others are eligible for GATE.

Students have a wide range of subjects in engineering, mathematics, life sciences. The students have to answer 65 questions of altogether of 100 marks for each subject, in a duration of 3 hours. Apart from the core questions related to the subject the students also have to answer general aptitude (language and analytic skills) questions. The latest development is the CBT (Computer Based Test) pattern of the exam wherein, students choose the right answer with the help of a mouse for the MCQ type questions. For numerical questions same method has to be followed, but the calculations are supposed to be done on the blank sheets which have to be returned.

GATE scores can be obtained a month after the exams are over. A minimum of 30 marks out of 100 are a must to qualify. A good score in GATE exams opens the doors of opportunities  for the talented students it opens the doors to the best colleges in India namely, all IIT’S, IISC, NIT, State engineering colleges, top private colleges etc. for post graduate exams.

The PSU’s namely, BHEL, ISRO, DRDO, ONGC will recruit engineers on the basis of the GATE score card. Engineering aspirants, who want to take up teaching as profession, will also need to have their GATE score card to apply for the post of Assistant Lecturer/ lecturer in engineering colleges.

Some international Universities namely, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, national university of Singapore, technical universities in Germany also use the GATE score card as a parameter to judge the academic excellence of the student for admission to the post graduate programs.

A small change in terms of a new subject has been introduced in the year 2014 titled, Ecology and Evolution.

The application fees will be rs. 1500/- approx. For male candidates in general category and OBC candidates.

For female candidates and SC, ST candidates the fees will be rs.750/ approx.

There is no standard way to pass the GATE exams. Ability and practice will ensure a smooth sail through this testing examination. Various coaching centres, a few distance learning centres, online classes are the most popular methods availed by students to crack the exams.
